Lunatone DALI-2 RM25 HS – DIN-rail relay module

The Lunatone DALI-2 RM25 HS is a compact switching actuator for integrating electrical loads without a DALI input into a DALI lighting system. DALI commands switch the connected load on and off. The device features one normally open relay contact and is designed for DIN-rail mounting.

With a maximum nominal load of 4000 VA and a maximum inrush current of 1000 A, the module can switch non-dimmable lighting and associated control gear within its specified electrical limits. The relay provides on/off control; it does not dim the connected load.

Zero-cross switching and current limitation

Switching at the AC voltage zero crossing reduces stress on the relay contact when switching on and helps support a long service life. This version also includes an integrated current limiter. The 1000 A rating refers to the maximum inrush current and must not be confused with the permitted continuous current.

DALI-2 integration and configuration

The RM25 HS operates as DALI Device Type 7 (DT7) for switching applications and uses one DALI address. It can be addressed and assigned to DALI groups and scenes. Power is supplied directly from the DALI bus, so no separate device power supply is required. A suitable DALI bus power supply is still necessary.

The DALI Cockpit PC software, together with a suitable DALI interface, allows standard DALI settings and device-specific functions to be configured. Adjustable switching thresholds determine how the relay responds to the virtual DALI dimming level, allowing its on/off behaviour to be adapted to the required control scheme.

Configurable power-up and bus-failure behaviour

The relay state when the DALI bus supply starts and when a system or bus failure occurs can be configured to switch on, switch off or retain its existing state. A power-up switching delay of 0 to 10 seconds can also be set.

Additional functions include configurable RESET behaviour, an option to ignore broadcast commands and timed switching for four selectable scenes. These scenes support an immediate action and a delayed switching action, with a delay from 1 second to 3 hours. The mains frequency for zero-cross detection can be set to 50 or 60 Hz.

Installation and application

The module is intended for permanent installation in a dry, clean environment and mounting inside a suitable control cabinet. The DALI connection is polarity-independent. Include its typical consumption of 3.8 mA when calculating the total load on the DALI bus power supply.

A suitable circuit breaker rated at no more than 20 A is required. Observe all relay and load limits. The maximum continuous relay current of 25 A does not permit the use of a 25 A circuit breaker. Installation must be performed with the system de-energised by a qualified installer, following applicable regulations and the manufacturer’s documentation.
